SUPER easy to install (on Ryzen 7 3700x).Ĭons: So my first review I was complaining about how this didn't fit. Pros: Has great ram clearance compared to version 1. Either way, I wish the backplate wasn’t even necessary and just worked with the default AM4 backplate. I wish the Intel components on the backplate were able to be easily snapped off (probably be unrealistic). Since they didn’t, it was incredibly agonizing for me, which is really annoying. Installation would be incredibly easy if they explained a few things. Louder than I thought it would be based on my experience with the 212 Black Edition (which is dead silent). Occasionally spikes to the low 80s when doing a CPU intensive game like Civilization. Overall Review: Works well, keeps my Ryzen 5 3600x under 70C in a Cooler Master NR200 case when gaming with a 3070 FE blowing heat into it. The fan noise is better than the Wraith Stealth, but not by much. I prefer the Cooler Master Silencio fan that comes on the 212 Black Edition, as it’s much quieter. I think, but it did cause me a lot of worry.
The backplate’s Intel screw holes lay over some components on the B550i Aorus Pro AX. The backplate is loose as you install, which is just so confusing. Had me double checking and agonizing over installation for multiple hours. Fits in the Cooler Master NR200 case.Ĭons: - Really wonky installation. Hard to complain once it’s installed and you work your fan curves out to keep it relatively quiet. Pros: Works pretty great with a Ryzen 5 3600X. I'm not overclocking this system but wanted a quiet and effient air cooler that fit without issues and just worked. I wasn't paid for this review, the EVO V2 just worked great and 5 eggs is appropriate. If I speed the fans up a little (still quiet) to about 1400 RPM, the temps are within 10 deg C of ambient, even with all cores at 100% for 10+ minutes. Now with a default fan curve, it didn't go much higher than 17 deg over ambient. My stock cooler with the I5-6500 (stock speed, no overclock) was hitting 100C and temp throttling under CInebench easily. I also appreciate that they include the brackets to install a second fan, and the little rubber noise isolators. Note that the retainer plate is supposed to be loose - theres a gap in the top side retaining spacers for a reason - the whole thing will tighten down perfectly when the cooler itself is tightened down.
I had seen the issues with the mounting solution for the 212 Evo but when the V2 version came out I decided it should work well on both this existing system and on a later AMD AM4 upgrade planned sometime next year. I needed an upgrade to an older I5-6500 rig with a stock Intel cooler that would easily hit 100C and throttle on any CPU intensive benchmark.
